"For me, natural perfumery is something I do simply because I love working with natural ingredients. I love their depth and complexity. They are challenging and finicky, and I love a good challenge. I also have a love for the historical and classic styles of perfumery as well as artisan methods of extraction including enfleurage, tincturing and distillation. My goal is to show people that natural perfume – as a genre of perfumery – is beautiful and unique in its own right."
Wit & West Perfumes has taken the Mile High City’s fragrance market to new heights. Despite the enigmatic nature of the perfume industry, Colorado-native Whitney Swales broke into the fragrance world and brought Wit & West, a natural perfumery, to Denver.
Nearly eleven years ago to the day I began our CaFleureBon Profiles In American Perfumery and on the eve of Independence Day. Video Content producer, Steven Gavrielatos, and I wanted to highlight three American indie perfume brands we think should get more attention. We chose these three American indie perfume brands; Gallagher Fragrances, Rogue Perfumery and Wit & West because each has their own aesthetic, are artisans, and began in other industries or were doing something else when they decided to become a perfumer.
Recently, I had the opportunity to sit down and share the Wit & West Perfumes story as well as West and my thoughts on our business, life and more with Shoutout Colorado.
