Colorado Public Radio: What is Colorado's State Smell?

Professional perfumer (read: smell-er) Whitney Swales, co-owner of the perfume company Wit & West, thought of the smell of an alpine meadow or maybe hiking a 14er — a mix of several notes. 

“The aroma of this setting to me is alpine fresh,” she told CPR News. “It has some citrusy elements like bergamot and lemon. Maybe eucalyptus, juniper, and mint to give it kind of that fresh effect and a hint of wildflowers. I also think of a pine-like coniferous, balsamic, green, and grassy element. Things like hay, maybe a distant campfire with smoke and wood burning in the distance.”
