Safety Considerations & How to Use

Welcome to the world of all-natural botanical perfumes and colognes with Wit & West Perfumes! Please see below for information about the natural ingredients used in our botanical perfumes and colognes as well as potential allergens, safety considerations, and helpful tips and tricks for wearing and using your new Wit & West perfumes and/or colognes.

    • Safety Considerations: As with any perfume, you should always conduct an allergy patch-test prior to use. Our perfumes contain natural ingredients such as citrus essential oils, floral absolutes, resins, etc. that some may find irritating to their skin. Discontinue use if signs of irritation or rash occur. For more on ingredients and labeling, see our FAQs.
    • Photosensitivity: Citrus oils used in some of our perfumes can cause photosensitivity, do not apply to the skin before direct sun exposure.
    • Common Sense Reminder: For external use only. Do not ingest. Avoid contact with eyes.
    • How to Wear: Natural perfumes made from 100% all-natural ingredients tend to last between 2-6 hours depending on the perfume as well as the person wearing the perfume. Ensure you have well-moisturized skin and apply perfume liberally on your pulse-points. For added longevity try spritzing in your hair. Dark colored perfumes may potentially stain clothing. Spray directly on skin to avoid any clothing stain mishaps.
    • How to Store: Keep your perfume bottle away from extreme temperatures and avoid prolonged exposure to direct sunlight.
    • How to Use/Spray Samples & Bottles: We do not “pre-spray” our samples or full-size bottles prior to shipping them to you (think of any other cosmetic or personal care products with pumps or seals; they do not arrive pre-opened or pre-pumped, you must remove a seal or set the pump to “open” and then pump several times when using for the first time). We choose not to do this to ensure you not only have the freshest product possible, but also because if we did pre-spray the samples/bottles that would be like sending you a product that had already been used/opened. Because we don’t pre-spray any of our products, this means that you’ll need to press the pumps several times to get it going.

How to use your Wit & West Samples: Do Not Attempt to Remove the Atomizer/Sprayer

DO NOT attempt to remove the sprayer/atomizer.

The sprayer/atomizer is not meant to come off and serves as both the cap and the sprayer. Not only is removing the sprayer not possible without the correct tools, but the bottles/samples are glass so you could end up breaking the atomizer and/or the bottle itself.

How to use your Wit & West Samples: Do not try and hold it with only your index finger and thumb as it won't work.

DO NOT spray the perfume sample like this

Unless you have superhuman strength, DO NOT try to spray the bottle with only your index finger and thumb, as it is harder to stabilize the perfume sample this way (two better options are below).

How to use your Wit & West samples: Spray the sample using two hands

Use two hands to spray the perfume sample.

Using your dominant hand, hold the sample in one hand (this also helps stabilize the sample), and with your other hand, press the pump with your thumb or index finger, whichever is more comfortable.

How to use your Wit & West samples: Spray the perfume sample like a lighter

Alternatively, you can spray the perfume sample by holding it like you would hold a lighter

Using your dominant hand, hold the sample firmly in your hand and then use your thumb to press the pump all the way down (similar to using a lighter).
